Genesis 1:27, On What Day Was Adam Created?

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

//On what day did God create Adam? Anybody know? Anybody?

And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Problem is, there is no mention whatsoever in this creation story of Adam and Eve. Just the creation of mankind in God’s image, which occurs on the sixth day. The story of the six days of creation ends in Genesis 2:3, and a second creation story begins in verse 2:4. In the second story, God forms Adam “in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.” He prepares Adam before any of the plant life, in order to tend the earth he is about to create: “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”

So, may we assume that Adam was formed on the third day, when God plants grass, and herbs, and fruit trees? But where is Eve?

Back to the second story. Eve comes after the fruit trees, after the animals. Eve makes her appearance from the rib of Adam, but only after Adam rejects all the rest of God’s creation as his “helpmeet.” Eve eats the forbidden fruit, gives it to Adam, their eyes are opened to see their nakedness, and God casts them out of the Garden of Eden. To Eve, God promises, “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children.”

Which brings us back to the first story, and the creation of mankind. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. We’re still trying to make sense of two legends, still trying to splice them together in a chronological pattern. So who is God speaking to when he says “Let us make man?” It can only be Adam, just after Adam has rejected all the animals as his mate.

“OK, Adam, you win, we’ll make mankind in our own image.”

So, God forms Eve, Eve seduces Adam, they get kicked out of the Garden and have all the world to play in with their new-found nakedness and knowledge. Along come children. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply.

Whaddaya think?

  1. Ummm, no “US” is speaking of the Trinity and God made man in His image “Imago Dei”. We bear the divine image of God as his created beings (see Genesis 1:26)

    • Hi, I believe Adam was formed on the Third day before the plants and any trees were grew. Gen 2:4 on wards. Eve was created on day 6 after the animals and tress were all there and Adam named all animals. Eve was created from Adam’s bone and flesh only. So the Bible summarized that man and woman were created on the 6th day because of Eve. Eve was part of Adam…the two shall become one. In other words Eve was the complete of Adam. In fact Adam comes first than Eve. Paul in his writings to the Ephesian mentioned that… a woman comes from man but they both comes from God. Amen.

      • No where in scripture talks about man being created on the third day where do you see this at?

        • DeepRead

You have to read Genesis 2:4-6 very carefully and with an open mind to conclude, Adam had to be created on Day #3.
It directly states “before it grew” (Gen 2:5). This meant “every plant of the field” and “every herb of the field”.
It is at this time that Genesis states God created Adam.
Then God created Eden and “there he put the man he had formed” (Genesis 2:7).

After creating Adam and placing Adam in Eden, God says, “It is not good that the man should be alone.” (Genesis 2:18)

Then, AFTER THAT, “God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air.” (Genesis 2:19)

“And God said let the earth bring forth vegetation”(Genesis 1:11) This was on Day #3.

This is a review of the text directly.

      • Minette

I also believe it was on the 3rd day. And God gave Adam the breath of life. The people that was created on the six day did not receive the breath of life.

    • Yes, it tells us…right there in black and white… Genesis 1:26-31 GNT

Then God said, “And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small.” So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female, blessed them, and said, “Have many children, so that your descendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals. I have provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for you to eat; but for all the wild animals and for all the birds I have provided grass and leafy plants for food”—and it was done. God looked at everything he had made, and he was very pleased. Evening passed and morning came—that was the sixth day.

Richard is right…”Us” refers to the Trinity because the Trinity is,was, and always will be. Adam never mated with an animal. Are you kidding me? Wow.

      • Cuneiform Scrolls will give your answer. genesis derives from older religions. Us refers to gods. Enki, enlil, lilth, Iaunza. 7 different pairs of humanity were created from the corpse of one of the iggi ( lesser gods). I LOVE HISTORY.

    • I also believe this. I believe that Ishah the woman was created probably hours b4 the rest of humanity all after the image or original copy-blueprint of God through Adam. Adam was the 1st man for a reason to establish the Newly Reformed-Revived Earth Kingdom of God and to teach the rest of mankind but he had fallen in sin like Us all now the US in plural I also believe was the Divine Elhoim Family all witnessing The Ancient of Days and His Spokesman (The Living Logos), create something the angels have never seen before.

    • Richard, I believe you have it right concerning the trinity. The angels were also present at Creation. I also feel there is a difference between Man and men. From Adam, the first MAN, came the genealogy of Jesus. To say Adam was created on this day or that would be an exercise in semantics as it is written that God knew us before the creation of the world. That he timed men’s arrival on the 6th, 3rd day, whatever. A special creation for Adam and Eve? Sure! They carried the seed of Jesus, the 6th day men had their seed(DNA) polluted by the fallen angels who were busy doing mischief while God rested. Taken literally, it makes more sense than debating how many hours were in the first day

      • No ones disputing the trinity. The discussion is if mankind was created on day six. Why is there a second creation story for adam?

    • boyscout

Only when one has the concept of trinity in mind first. The bible clearly says the messiah is the word of God i.e. His speech. The bible clearly says the spirit of God, just as there is spirit of man. Can you say man is trinity because he has a spirit and he can speak? Trinity is but a creation of man.

      • 1 Thessalonians 5:23
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
        NKJV

Man is at least a three part being “may you whole SPIRIT, SOUL, and BODY be persevered blameless”.

If we are made in the image of God would we not reflect who He is?

    • God was speaking to himself. Just like we plan and speak to ourselves. It was God and the word and they are the same one with the other. We are made in the image of God with a mind(conscience) and The spirit comes From God as well, the holy spirit was all over all creation, even when it was without form. So in the beginning Was God and he thought of what he wanted and spoke it into existence and it formed by The Word through the spirit. When the Bible explains the creation of the angels, the word likeness is used and with us we are made in the image, likeness I believe is used to inform that angels are celestial beings with powers like God but look different and when image is used for us it is to affirm we look alike but do not have the powers. This leads me to believe that when Satan challenged God to be “like” him God took his actions accordingly and sent them away. Satan and the other angels that followed him was given dominion over the skies and earth. Then when God breathed into the form he called Adam he came to life by the word from the beginning when God planned his creation. Cut to, Eve was made from Adam, (Adam from Gods spirit, and Eve from man’s flesh. All is still good up to here because the Garden of Eden was a safe haven for God and his creation that had not been exposed to sin. Eve meets up with Satan and decides to go against Gods command of what to do and not to do and because of this, just like when Satan “sinned” Eve now worries. Worry would be equal to self preservation- she showed Adam and Adam follows Eve and partakes in the fruit.( now one would wonder why even put a tree of knowledge of good and Evil in the Garden, well…. I’m not sure about that yet but I say maybe something to do with freewill. Maybe God wants to be chosen by his creation just like he chose to create us ‍♂️) since Eve sinned it wasn’t that big of a deal because she was made by man. But Adam being of Gods breath meant that sin will forever be passed through the flesh because we create in the image of ourselves, I.e. Why our children resemble us and have certain mannerisms that remind us of each other. While we was under the old law, especially sacrifices, God knew that sin would take over and soon we would put our own(mankind) before him and would become rebellious and self righteous. Use Cain and Able as a first example, Cain murdered his own brother because of (sin) self preservation. Cains jealously led to that action and that is the first time sin ended with death. The wages of sin= death.
Because God loved his creation so much instead of wiping the entire idea out, God offered us another way to still have eternal life and spend eternity with our love of Creator and that was through his word. Gods word was with him in the beginning and his word created all, everything in the heavens and the earth including the heavens and earth. God sent his word into the world through a earthly birth, this way the flesh( full of sin) and the Word of God (perfect and never failing) is in one body. By doing this, we have been give. A second chance to defeat sin and that is through the Death of Jesus. The death of Jesus signifies that the flesh dies and the spirit lives; Sin dies and remains in the earthly binds and the Holy Spirit lives in eternity with God. If the Holy Spirit, the spirit of God that formed all creation through the Words of God does not enter you due to your own self preservation…. then when God returns to gather up his belongings to enter the Heavens he has created for us, if his Spirit/word/Jesus is not within you for him to see then those still full of sin will be left behind to be consumed by the flesh. For he does not know you.

  2. :) Of course I’m aware of the Christian slant on that verse.

I’m also aware that, at the time it was written, there was no concept whatsoever of a Trinity. Not in the wildest imaginations of its author.

So who did the author really imagine to be the other part(s) of the “us”? To be honest, most likely it was written in the age when Israel was still polytheistic.

    • To me this doesnt seem to diffucult. my mother and i a discussion about this the other day… the first chapter of the Bible basicallly runs down what he did during the 7 days but you have to pay attention to whats written. i think we get brainwashed because we hear the same story since we were kids. In the first chapter he created the animals, men and women on the sixth day.

(25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.)

The second chapter goes into more detail as to when he created the first man.

(And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.)

So adam was created before the grass. He was created before the animals (because he named them) he couldnt find a “helpmate” from them so god created a woman. Now it doesnt say how many children they had but we know about 3 Cain Able and Seth. Cain kills Able and God makes him a wonderer on the earth. Cain is scared for his life from the other people out there that would kill him. so God puts a mark on his head. he goes to the land of Nod where he meets his wife… when were those people created? the 6th day.

      • I think you got it there Life. I read an apology on this and the guy wrote that the term used in Genesis 1 has to do with the internal act of creation in the heart and mind, and the term used in Genesis 2 has to do with the manifestation or forming of a thing, e.g., it is clarifying the chronology of the manifestation of the creation. In other words Adam was created the third day. Which to me makes a lot of sense. If God’s desire was to create sons and taking my cue from creation, fathers like to show sons what they are meant to be when they grow up. In essence Adam got to watch Papa create and had fun naming the creation. There is a lot of information in Genesis 2 that does not need to be there if something is not being clarified. But as far as some of the other stuff written on this site about the trinity, it does not exist because men want it to exist. However i see the “let us make man in our image”, I believe is an excitement about something God has been longing to do. I can see him rubbing his hands together in excitement saying “now, let us make man in our image” to himself (trinity) if you like. But the main thing is I think He is psyched about finally bringing forth the dream of creating sons, and daughters, which is why He started building this thing to begin with. Love always multiplies itself.

    • Actually, in the Hebrew translation of Genesis, at the very beginning of the book-“In the beginning, God created the heaven the Earth”-the word used instead of God is the word Elohim. The word appears in its PLURAL form, and what this means is that the Godhead-the Father, Son and Holy Spirit-were all present at the time of Creation. So yes, there was indeed the concept of a Trinity.

      • Lee Harmon

Hi, Z! Are you making the claim that wherever the Elohist wrote, he was referring to a triune God? Can we then postulate that wherever the Yahwist wrote, he did NOT believe in the Trinity?

    • The flesh in me wants to put more of my opinions, but they are just that. What I can say is that it doesn’t really matter, and the more you study Gods word in meekness, the more you realize that there are NO contridictions in it.
I do not nor have I ever claimed a religion however I do claim Jesus Christ, try googling jesus or the holy spirit in the old testament, because they are both there.

    • Ray DeBoer

The “us” in Gen 1:26 is obviously the unfallen angels and other ” heavenly creatures” the bible speaks of.

  3. Interesting how authoritative you can sound about an author or by your reasoning, “authors” that you never met. You truly know the wildest imaginations of the author/authors? I only agree with you because I do believe that the trinity idea came with the creation of the Catholic church. For some people that is blasphemous.

Richard is correct that it is “us”. Although how Richard put it is interesting. Just what do you mean by Trinity and God? Isn’t the Trinity supposed to be God (Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit)? Are you thinking of a quadrinity?

This Trinity thing is confusing. For me the reality is not confusing. Christ was one with His Father. Christ also said that we could be one with Him and His Father. We get to be part of the family.

  4. lol. I think the two of you are taking this too seriously. My post was a tongue-in-cheek attempt to splice together two legends. Two separate contradictory stories, written in two different styles, at two different times. Of course it won’t be seamless.

As far as the “us”, I’m most curious about what the AUTHOR meant. Nowhere in the O.T. do we see God talking to Christ. God talks to Satan, to other gods, but never to a being that wouldn’t be imagined for another thousand years. (Yes, I know, after Israel fell, they began to dream of a rescuer…but do not make the mistake of thinking O.T. writers hoping for a Messiah were expecting that Messiah to be a god-figure).

    • Tre Brooks

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. (Proverbs 8:22-31 KJV)

    • One last thought, God is separating the wheat from the chaff and we are truly in the last days. So to make it simple, Adam sinned against God as did most men after that then God sent his son Jesus to save mankind, and he will be back for his own. So let us be like children and wait to come unto him. And then all things shall be seen clearly. Let us all be ready and may God bless you all.

  6. Thanks for the great response. I understand we are not responding in the same vein as you were in the writing of the post. For many of us these topics are serious and our discussion reflects that.

The Dubious Disciple said, “to splice together two legends”. For many of us they are not legends. Most of us that do not see them as legends do not see your contradictions. There is a disagreement in a number of areas. I am quite certain that it is not because of anyones lacking of logic or the use thereof. The disagreement is because of belief and the resultant difference in how things are looked at.

It is good to see you are wondering what the “AUTHOR” in the O.T. means in what is said and not said. I also wonder. The Dubious Disciple says, “…but do not make the mistake of thinking O.T. writers hoping for a Messiah were expecting that Messiah to be a god-figure”. I do not know what the writers were hoping for. I do know that for me I see the “AUTHOR” made sure that recorded in the O.T. were many prophesies that Jesus later fulfilled. The “AUTHOR” even had a writer record Moses failure to provide the correct example of Christ in bringing forth water out of the rock. Numbers 20:8-12

There are a number of other references to explain in more depth, but at this time I will just say, Jesus is the rock and the rock freely gives forth his water. It is interesting to me to see that the correct type is a free giving of the water. It is not because of struggle it is just because of asking for the water.

Maybe the more we struggle the farther away from the water we get. When we stop struggling and just ask then we can receive. Just my thoughts, enjoy or not your choice. :)

    • Keeping it simple in our faith is instrumental. Jesus referred to accepting him as a little child. In other words him being the word, the word is life, life is the scripture we read. When we read with an open mind and being lead by the holy spirit that’s when true revelations come for us to live by everyday. Not when we get caught up with what came first the chicken or the egg.

  7. Tim, I sometimes have trouble understanding your definitions. What would you ever agree is a “contradiction?” In one story, Adam is formed after the plants and animals; in the next, he is formed before the plants and animals. I realize this is a minor contradiction, but is it not a contradiction? If these stories are meant to be read as history, then at least one is historically inaccurate.

The Bible abounds in contradictions. When did Jesus die? Who killed Goliath? How did Judas die? These are the sort of issues I write about because I find them interesting. I hope they make you think about what the authors wanted to say. I’d be happy to use a word other than “contradiction” if you find a different word less offensive.

    • Marvin Heuser

When you get to the point of understanding genesis 1 & 2, you will realize that the 1st and 2nd chapter of Genesis are complementary with each other. Once you understand that the two chapters are only one Creation writing, you will then be on your way to becoming a true scholar of the word of God. You are deeply into the Documentary Hypothesis “THEORY”, that is why you say there are two creation stories, and also call them legends with contradictions. It shows me you don’t believe the truth of Gods word as written, and continually look for things you can use to try to debunk Gods Holy word. What the Documentary Hypothesis is called by many who know its depths in the debunking of scripture, is the EJDP Theory. It is totally false in it’s assumptions. Even the so called Scholars who promote it cannot agree on the proper alignment of the writings of the Elohemic, Pristly, Deuteromic, or Jehovaistic, theory self. Study Genesis 1 & 2 as the 1st chapter being the days in which Elohem created the earth and all that is in it, and Genesis 2 as the writing that tells you what was done in those days, and you will have the truth of Elohem’s creation of man on earth.

I must mention that you are definitely right in assuming that Adam, “THEE ADAM”, was formed and had the breath of God breathed into his body, and was made alive, just as Jesus was made alive again, on the third day. Also you are right in assuming that Eve was made on the sixth day, as well as were all the others outside the garden that were made from her, that is why she is called the mother of all the living. (a thought for you, — Did Elohem form all the others from eve in the same manner that eve was formed from Adam? Adam and Eve had the tree of life in Gods garden, but there was no tree of life outside of the garden. Those outside the garden could eat of “EVERY TREE” says Genesis, but Adam and Eve could not do so in Gods garden where God had put the tree of life, and the tree of Good and evil. If you are a interested scholar, you will see this in the single creation writing of Genesis chapter 1 and 2.) Remember also, the manuscripts do not have chapters or numbered verses, these were added to make it easier to read for people who were not Hebrew in nationality or language.
      Respectively.

Hi Marvin! Thanks for contributing your perspective. We have a philosophical difference, of course, because I think it stifles the message of the Bible’s authors, including the stories handed down before written down, to try to harmonize them. The Bible isn’t a stale history book to me, it is a book of meaning, the record of a nation growing up and learning about God. Just as we have different opinions, different God-experiences, and find different meanings in life’s events today, so did these ancient writers. Let’s let them have their voice.

    • Its quite simple. Male and Females were already created. Adam and Eve were made specifically for Gods garden of Eden, that held the Tree of Life & the Tree of knowledge(good & evil). Adam was the 1st Male to have faith in obeying Gods word. He failed and the rest is history. No incest etc, and also explains Cains story etc.

  9. Hi, Australia, and welcome! Thanks for the links!

While I agree, at least in part, on the purpose of myth-making, I’m not sure you’ll win many followers among today’s “enlightened” populace. It’s so hard for people to imagine truth on any level other than literal. Here’s hoping I’m wrong!

  10. “It’s so hard for people to imagine truth on any level other than literal.” Maybe I am just pretty dense, but absolute “truth” has to at some point have a literal conclusion – not some mushy conglomeration. A rose by any other name is still a rose….;-)

  11. Richard, is Beethoven’s Fifth “true?” How about the Mona Lisa? Forest Gump?

Simple literal “truth” neglects beauty, meaning, purpose, emotions. Sometimes I think we died during the Enlightenment.

    Mmm…

As I don’t think Adam was human, although very much a look-a-like human, not of men, but a man, I suggest his nakedness was knowing he was a spiritual being, and not a human being.

So I go for a parallel universe, so a parallel Earth, which was once Paradise and is now Hades.

Thus the Flood happened downstairs, which turned Paradise into a vast grave yard, hence Hades.

  13. Anonymous

I believe Adam was created on the third day and eve and the rest of mankind on the sixth day. Some ask, ” how is it that we all came from Adam?”. Simple, because of the flood. Noah was from the Adam lineage and therefore, we exist from Adam. All the others were wiped out in the flood.

  14. A reasonable deduction! So, God made lotsa people on the sixth day, including Eve, right?

    • Shane Anderson

I believe that God made more than Adam and Eve as well. Look at the simple fact that when Cain left for the land of Nod he had found a wife, how is that possible when Cain and Abel were the children of Adam and Eve.

  16. I write this as someone who looks into the glass dimly and does not know all things. If we can consider that the plan of salvation can be seen in all the bible and maybe also in the interpretation of Genesis creation. We have in the bible the tabernacle then the temple then the body of the believer as the temple of the holy spirit. In salvation we have christ as saviour and all his attributes freely given us.Because He died we died in Him because He rose we rose with him because he is righteous we are also.as believers we are classed as the body of christ,Gods children born from above born again of him.Yet we were not born from a relationship between Jesus and a female we did not literally come from the loins of Jesus we are of his body through belief. So let us look at creation to some degee as depicting this.First we have Adam as the first man living and Christ as the second man a life giving spirit 1cor 15;45.Could it be that the many believers are new creations without coming from the loins of Jesus he being the first born over all creation and we born again into his likeness. So with Adam formed in Gods image many other men were formed in Adams image him being the prototype or like Christ firstborn over all creation of the rest mankind,of which God said to Adam let us make man in our image on the sixth day.Adam though it seems was formed in the midst of the third day before any plant was on the earth. Now as Christ has received more glory than us so Adam was more glorious than general mankind. And as Christ has risen to the heavenlies and at this time because we are on earth seperate from him so Adam was also in the garden seperate from the rest of mankind. In this Eden was the two types of trees and God walked and his presence was in the garden. So Eden was atype of the most holy place where Gods presence was in the temple. As to in the new covenant where Christ sits at the right hand of God yet by his spirit abides in the believer. At the time of Adam the rest of mankind like the church is seperate from Adam and the garden as the church is from seeing Jesus face to face. They dwelt in the land outside Eden. Also Christ the last Adam is our high priest so Adam was also high priest over mankind then.As Christ is righteous and naturally continues to be, so the believer is righteous in him.Now Adam before he sinned mankind like Adam did not sin,but when Adam sinned sin entered the world and thus all mankind began to sin. This is why Cain killed his brother and feared after his eviction that he could be killed also. There are many more things I could add and have left out because of size.So in summery we can see a type of the temple, the two types of Adam, one leading mankind to fall to sin and death, the other to life ever lasting.I have read this and I have really condensed it maybe to much.I hope you can understand for I have left out a lot.

  17. Thanks for the comment, googa, your interpretation seems quite healthy!

  18. Anonymous

I am quite on par with googa. Adam (Adam and Eve God called them both Adam in the day they were made isn’t till the fall that we get Eve) were created on the third day before everything else as described by chapter two and everything was made for them. That is why we see the whole God creating things after their kind thing except when it comes to the rest of mankind who are also made in his image and given dominion. Adam and his lineage through Seth all the way to Noah were THE Sons of God. They were the prophets of their time. Remember Adam’s (the man) prophecy when he gave Eve her nickname that she was the mother of “all living” he was predicting the flood because the sixth day men were not children of Eve but after the flood only Noah and his descendants are left. Even though Adam fell God still counted him as righteous because Noah was said to be PERFECT in his generations. God is a helluva merciful you know.

What really sucks is the whole Garden thing was a test, a choice. In the whole garden out of all the trees given to Adam only two mattered the Tree of Life and the Tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil. If they had followed the command of God they would have lived forever after consuming the tree of Life and God would have removed the temptation of the other tree. This wasn’t some “oh eventually they would get bored and eat the bad tree and screw us all” they had a CHOICE and the screwed us all. But hey Adam (Adam and Eve) were the BEST and they failed so I don’t think we could’ve done any better.

Ah well. Thank the Lord for being merciful.

Trying this from a phone …
The trouble is not contradiction here, but holding to preexisting assumptions. Read the narrative carefully. In Genesis 1 until 2 verse 3 we hear the overview. Then it goes back and says “look, here is a specific thing that happened AFTER the earth was formed, but BEFORE there were plants. ” it then goes on to describe how the Lord God made Adam, which is different from how the multiple people are created on the 6th day. Those people are not identified as Adam and Eve.
After Cain kills Abel and God is yelling at him, Cain expresses fear that other people will kill him when they see the murderer mark. After being reassured, he goes off and finds a wife. There are other people around by now – the people created by God’s word in Genesis 1. Nothing else makes any sense.
You should probably apply yourself to some Hebrew study to get the deeper meaning out of the different names used for God here
They have nothing whatsoever to do with the Christian Trinity, of course

  21. Fill us in, Anonymous! I assume you’re talking about the way, in the second chapter, “Elohim” receives the name “Yahweh.” So, how does this influence the interpretation of the creation story?

  22. Anonymous

    Hi, my name is Greg,

I came across this thread because in studying my bible I came to the exact same conclusions on my own, went to look it up and behold many others had come to this reasoning.

    It is quite simple:

THIRD DAY: Gen 1:12 -1:13 PLANTS created
SIXTH DAY: Gen 1:26 -1:27 Male AND Female created (this implies a seperate creation myth as male AND female are created AT THE SAME TIME to have dominion over ALL the world, how are TWO people rooted in ONE place, EDEN, going to have control over all the world??? This implies a seperate MULTITUDE of people created at the same time and populated over ALL the world. In Gen chapter 2 EVE is not created at the same time as Adam.)

Gen 2 starts with basically saying this is a ‘RECOUNT’ of what happened…no one denies or doubts that, but it is what is said in that RECOUNT that supports the idea of two creation events…

DAY TWO or DAY THREE Gen 2:5 – Plants had not been made yet…WHY?…because there was no rain yet – and NO MAN TO TILL THE GROUND.

No matter how you spin it this has to be day 2 or 3 —because in Gen 1:12,13 there are plants on the third day already.

AND this is something that not a lot of people focus on –one of the stipulations as to why there was not grass yet was because — THERE WAS NO MAN TO TILL THE GROUND. This would imply that God’s purpose was to have man here first to tend to plants and animals. AND THAT ALL HAPPENS BEFORE DAY 3 CLEARLY– or possibly ON day 3 plants were created right after man.

Now those that will argue that man’s creation happened on the SIXTH day will point to GEN 2:1(declaring this is a replay of events that have already happened) and Gen 2:6 ‘There came a midst from the ground that proceeded to water all of the earth’ — they will say this accounts for days 3,4,5, and 6 —that 2:6 is the total of ALL those days and that plants and animals and whales and birds were created before Gen 2:7 where God creates Adam. –To me that is a STRETCH at best.

It seems clear that there was two seperate creation events for man. This is my opinion from reading and re-reading.

Also in doing a side study on the HEBREW word for ‘man’ I have found some interesting facts. From Gen 1:26,27 to Gen 2:5-2:7 there are TWO seperate words used for MAN…the one used in Gen 1:26,27 means ‘MEN’ or ‘MANKIND’ and the one from Gen 2:7 means “THE MAN” or as we have come to know it ‘Adam, THE MAN’ –as ADAM is the root of the hebrew word for man. (It’s actually a little more complicated than that, but in simple english speaking terms this is the ‘gist’ of the two words, I would encourage your own study for clarification)

Now all of this is said in the argument for 3rd day creation…if you want to further expand yourself look up 8th day creation myth…yes that’s right some people believe that there are more days that God created things AFTER he rested, and that Adam and Eve were created on the EIGHTH day. This idea is used to explain why there are new species and to explain why you can find bones for extinct things like dinosaurs. People will say ‘Oh that’s a 9th day creation of God’ or ‘Those were a 12th day creation of God’ Many believe he is STILL creating. Not sure what ‘DAY’ we are suppossed to be living in.

Anyway I hope I added to the conversation and didn’t take away from it.

    Bless you!!!

    • You are correct. Adam was indeed created on the morning of day 3. The Garden of Eden was created by God especially for Adam. He created Adam and placed him there. Once He places him there, He creates the trees that are pleasant to look at and for food. It goes on to describe the rivers that are in the garden. This is the afternoon of day 3 because God now has caused the plants to grow with water. He tells Adam not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. (Eve didn’t hear this from God because she has yet to be created). God says it is not good for man to be alone. As you see Adam is the only soul on Earth at this point. In Genesis 1 on day 6 God creates male and female, He creates them and blesses THEM. This is humankind. He shows them everything He has created and explains everything to them. He says BEHOLD to them. Behold means to SEE. In order for them to see everything He is talking about it had to have already been created. Clearly in Genesis 2 it is BEFORE plants, Adam is ALONE, and there is NO man to till the ground. He tells humankind to be fruitful and multiply to replenish the Earth. These are the people with whom Cain feared would kill him when God expelled him from the Garden of Eden and from his parents. That is when God placed a mark upon Cain saying if anyone should kill him, vengeance would be seven fold upon them. Obviously Cain wasn’t worried about his Dad and Mom (Adam and Eve) killing him because he was being driven from their presence forever. These people are also where Cain chose his wife.
Back to Eve. She was created especially for Adam. She was created before on day 6 in the Garden of Eden, after the animals but before humankind. God made the animals, brought them to Adam to name and then caused him to fall in to a deep sleep where his rib was removed to create Eve. Eve became Adam’s wife because God made her especially for him. A soul mate, if you will. This would make her the mother of all the living as stated in Chapter 3.

  23. Hi Greg, I had never heard of the 8th-day creation myth! Thanks for contributing…

    • Anonymous

I hadn’t heard of it until I read gen 1:12,13 then gen 1:26-1:31 then read Gen 2:5 – 2:7 and said to myself something is wrong here! So I GOOGLED it and came across all this info.

Google 8th day creation….BEHOLD THE POWER OF GOOGLE!

  24. It states in the Bible: “So God created human beings* in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them”…”And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.”
It can be found in Genesis 1:26-31

  25. Lee Harmon

You’ve inspired a new post, liz. Check out tomorrow’s blog entry and tell me what you think.

  26. The bible is a bunch of FAIRY TALES

  27. Adam was created on the 3rd day. If you look at Genesis Chapter 2 it reads, “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”
The only time in Genesis 1 where there is dry land and no plant or herbs is the morning of day 3. He created Adam and then placed him in the Garden of Eden which God had prepared especially for him. In Genesis 1 God creates male and female, he created THEM on day six. This is humankind. He told them to BEHOLD all that He had created. In order for them to behold it (to SEE it) it had to have already been created. It clearly states God created Adam BEFORE the plants and herbs. This also explains where the people came from that Cain feared would kill him when God drove him out and away from the Garden of Eden, from his parents Adam and Eve. These are also the people where the wives of the men came from. We are not a product of incest.

  28. This isn’t a “what do you think” theory, this is fact. Adam was created on the morning of the third day. Eve was created in the afternoon of the sixth day. I published this back in 1994 after a NDE I had where I asked to bring back something regarding God that no one else could dispute. I have tried for nearly twenty years to get people to just re-read Genesis 1 & 2 without any bias of what they had been told. I feel as though I have failed in some way. I have been able to accomplish nothing more than a few plagiarists and blog topics. If you want the exact information I have, so you can remove the “Eve seduces Adam” stigma, I will be glad to help.

    • Hi sandy I would like to talk about this with you in more detail. My name is frank, I’m from Australia and I too have had a similar experience where god has opened up the books of genesis to my understanding! Please email me on frank.barbaro@hotmail.com.

  29. Lee Harmon

Sandy, what did you bring back from your NDE? Or was your request for proof denied?

Don’t worry, I don’t have an “Eve seduces Adam” stigma, the whole idea of combining the two creation stories (Genesis 1 and Genesis 2) was written tongue-in-cheek. It’s surely best not to confuse either story by trying to merge them.

  30. Drake Iverson

It really is amusing to see all the many different interpretations on this “creation story”. Didn’t it occur to anybody that the whole bloody thing is one gigantic MYTH? Every ancient culture and tribe has its own mythology of how the universe was created. You Christians arrogantly dismiss these MUCH OLDER beliefs as nonsense; the imaginations of primitive minds. Yet when it comes to YOUR version, “HEY! We KNOW ours is the only TRUE story!” The entire Bible–especially the “Jesus part” is nothing but superstitious twattle plagiarized from those older myths. Get over yourselves.

  31. Anonymous

None of it happened at all. The story began in Mesopotamia and being the polished story tellers they were (and still are) they elaborated and exaggerated and plagarized a fairy-tale already scribed in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

But I do find the conflicts in a “God inspired” book noteworthy.

How about the part where it says the value of pi equals 3? Was God taking a break when that was written, or did he not forsee our ability to calculate the same?

  32. Philip welch

God Created Adam on the 3rd day, as you read chapter 2 of Genesis where it talks of the History of Heaven and Earth’s Creation you will see Gen2:5 when every plant was made there was no man to till the land, now go back to Gen chapter 1 and you will se on the 3rd day the plants were made therefore God Created Adam on the 3rd day, Eve was created on the 6th day that Adam would have a help mate the same day when the animals were also created every beast of the field Adam named them all then God made Eve

  33. So as my research for my bible study.. I agree that mankind was created in Gensis 1:27. God created them, then placed them in the Garden of Eden. So basically its like this. You have created a cake. meaning you put the ingredients together like sugar flour eggs etc. so a molecular structure started. Then it was formed meaning the tangible evidence. So God created mankind then formed them in the Garden of Eden.

  34. raymond

Well God the father was talking to jess Christmas when he said let us create man in our image this do not mean creating man only in flesh to look like God but it also means man
Was created as a trinity we have the flesh the sprit and the soul

  35. lizzie

Let us refers to God and the Host of Heaven as He speaks to the rest of the Angels etc.

I dont know why there are two accounts tho. the creation of other humans would certainly be
well received…it does seem as if there is a bit missing in the story.

  36. Gracie Gragg

I believe Adam was born in the 8th day of creating. Yes he had a belly button as it clearly says he is to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. Who were his parents? We are not told. Could have been from the 6th day of creation of mankind. 8th.day creation means a new beginning. In the book of Jubilees the date is told but I no longer have that book handy to check it out.

    • No matter what day adam was created he was not born of a woman adam was created by God in his image belly button and all. If I had to choose I would say he was created on the 8th day. Because he was created to walk with God the first soul. So he got to watch God his father create for him a beautiful garden. And was like “Hey Adam look at this, its yours cool huh what should we call ” so I have believed since a girl that God enjoyed the eighth day with Adam.

  37. Wayne McCleese

I believe that Genesis 1:25 is the completion of God’s physical creation on day 6. And Genesis 1:26-30 is the completion of the planning stage for the creation of mankind, even though some of it seems to be referred to in the past tense [God’s plans are so assured that they are sometimes spoken of in the past tense (example Isaiah Chapter 53)also I think time is very different for God, He sees present, past and future at the same time]. Mankind is not created until Genesis 2:7, sometime after God rested. Probably after an extinction of the land animals, which was God’s intention all along; thus the need for a Garden of Eden.

  38. People read the bible and they make up their own concepts. Like who did Cain marry if there were no other people on earth? They dismiss entirely that God made male and female on the 6th day. Adam was created after God had lain down on the 7th day. He created Adam to till the garden..Eden..a special place. We read but we don’t listen to what we read. Some of these bibles are twisting the inspired words and writing things to mislead people. But dont worry you will not be held accountable. It isn’t going to send you to hell. Certain things in the bible are not explained very well causing people to speculate..the mark of Cain..well…why not make him a man larger than the average man..a giant perhaps. Now he has no reason to be afraid. Who is he afraid of? Maybe the men God made on the 6th day. Cain is not listed in the lineage because he’s the son of Lucifer.
Enoch was taken by God. You say that’s contradicting the bible. It says no flesh entrts into heaven. God didn’t say he was taken to heaven. When you read the book of Enoch it says Enoch resides with the Watchers. God’s true name, YHWH, pronounced YAHWEH used to be in the KJV 51 times now it’s there only once..Psalm 68:4. David calls our God YAH for short. KJ gave Israel to the khazars..these people call themselves Jews. God speaks to them in Revelations. Even Nasser a politician in the East says: “How did you leave Black and come back White?” While you guys are at it read Deuteronomy 28 & 29. Is it speaking of the Blacks in the slave trade to European countries? I’m inclined to believe so. Noah is born with White skin, hair and blue eyes, looking like the children sired by the angels. But Enoch says he is an Albino and is not tainted. I wonder why this book was hidden..no it was not lost. My dear ones there was no “J” in the Hebrew language nor European’s until after the 1400’s. When was the bible translated from the Hebrew scrolls? Way before the 1400’s. The “Y” was changed to J. Why were the people forbidden to read the old bible after KJ revised it to include the Khazars as Jews. There’s going to be hell to pay when our Savior comes. One other thing..this is addressed to JH if Jesus is Michael then tell me who was Michael referring to when he told Lucifer the Lord rebuke you…no not God the father but God the son. There’s more questions for them but I’m tired.

  39. Gen 1:26 talks of the likeness of God. But the likeness has nothing to do with the fleah man that is created male/female but rather the spirit man or the purposee of man which is metaphysical.

Gen 1:27, you then have to understand what is the image of God. But also understand that God was not physical in Genesis 1. And that the Spirit of a person is neither male or female. Man/ Humanity is made in the image of God.
    John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
And we as people go beyond what is physical. We Are spirit before flesh. And that’s why Gen 2 talks of the creation of a phsical man which is after they 7th day when everything was done. And I see that eveyone keeps on getting caught up at Genesis 2:5King James Version (KJV)

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew:
And you go back to the 3rd day when grass and trees were made but it is not talking about the created grass and trees but rather the seeds of grass and trees that grow from water and cultivation, which the formed man was created for. Gen 2:5 …..till the ground.

So to rap it up. The Spirt of what and who name waa to be on the 6th and the flesh man after the everything was already done on the 7th.

Lastly remember, days are only repeated on a calendar

  40. I came across your site and reading all the comments. The bible is Jesus the word of God. He gave a warning, take heed that no man deceive you. No man can tell you the meaning of what you are reading. If we have a bible it is up to ourselves to find the truth for it is simple if we clear our minds and let the Holy Spirit show the way. All the preconceived ideas and pictures of the bible we have in our heads block what we are reading.I see there are different thoughts on when Adam was created. There were two you find the second in the new testament, one earthy and one from God. A little hint on the first is on the fifth day the waters brought forth every living creature that moveth and fowls to fly above the earth. Every living thing God created is after their kind not able to reproduce with the other. On day six God said let the earth bring forth cattle, and creeping things and beast of the earth and man to have dominion over all.Maybe this is our fleshly side? Just a thought you must decide. In chapter two when God formed Adam from the dust you will read before the plant of the field and herb of the field before it grew, God had not caused it to rain because there was not a man to till the ground. Not man or men but a man Adam. Another hint is in chapter nineteen, out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air and brought them to Adam to be named. We have here fowls of the air formed out of the ground, but in day five we have fowls that the waters brought forth. What is different in this one from water and one from ground? Look at what they are called, in day five they are winged fowl and day six they are beasts of the earth. In chapter nineteen they are fowls of the air and beast of the field not earth same as the plant of the field and herb of the field not earth. Things we can agree on things of the field must be tilled or the will die, same as animals of the field must be shepherded. It is like Cain and Able on a tiller and one a shepherd I guess that came from Adam. Jesus told us to become as children. Children has open minds not filled with years of pictures and preconceived ideas that has come from man. The bible is written so a child can understand, there ears are not plugged so they can here. The truth comes from hearing. Just my thought, May you walk in the Light, there you find the truth.

  41. Kevin Houston

According to Genesis 2:5 there was not a plant on the face of the whole Earth when The Lord God formed Adam! This means that he was created on the 3rd day (NOT the 6th) AFTER the waters were gathered to one place & dry land appear, but BEFORE the plants appeared later that day. It is true! If you compare the 6th
day creation of the many nations (of mankind) to the Adamic account (in ch. 2) then you will see a world of difference. Such as the people created on the sixth day are told to “be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the Earth, and subdue it and have dominion over it”. Naturally this is a roaming job for many peoples/nations (and God
created them male & female, on the same day, after the creation of the plants & animals). However, Adam & Eve are not given dominion over the world, but rather they are made caretakers inside of God’s Garden (in a secluded region “…eastward in
Eden”, Gen. 2:8). Also, Adam is created before plants & animals, whereas Eve is created after both of them were. Never does the 6th day account mention the names Adam or Eve. That is because they do not apply there! Also, God tells the peoples, that He created on the 6th day, that they may eat of EVERY single fruit tree, with absolutely no exceptions! But of course they resided outside of God’s Garden so that was ok. However, Adam & Eve was given a MAJOR exception to the fruit trees in which they may partake of. Another, sure fire, way to see how Adam was created before the people on the 6th day is to note Genesis 2:18-20. Here we see that God had resolved to make Adam a help meet/wife, but first He creates
every beast of the air and “every FOWL of the air”. Then Adam names them. However, there was not found a help meet/wife amongst them! Now then, Genesis 1:21 attests that “every winged FOWL after his kind” was made on the 5th day (vs.23). Therefore Adam was created BEFORE the fowl was. However, the people that were created on the 6th day was created AFTER the fowl was. You will read in the new testament that we all came from Adam & Eve with no mention of the many other peoples/nationalities created on the 6th day. This is because we all are descendants of Noah (who was a direct descendant of Adam & Eve) and none of the other nationalities were spared (except for their genetic information shared amongst the eight survivors of Noah’s Flood). You see Adams lineage was known as “the sons of God” (“…and Adam was the son of God”, Luke 3:38). And in the face of the many churches in designer/pop christendom, God would NOT have created only one bloodline to reproduce through incest!!!
Therefore the sons of God took
    themselves wives from amongst the
many nationalities of mankind (whom had spawned from the 6th day account), Genesis 6:1 & 2. Their offspring took on their fathers name. That’s what the refined understanding of the phrase: “men of renown” (vs. 4)
means; it means: men of The Name
(men of The Name of God that is).
Their offspring was added to the
lineage of the sons of God race! No; they were not the giants/nephilim/fellers. However the giants/nephilim/fellers were in the Earth during the same time period (also after the flood
too, ie. the Rephaim, Anakim, king Og etc.etc.). They were the decendants of Cain. Cain was made a giant so that he could protect himself from avengers. That was the mark that God put on him. Now then, after ten generations of the sons of God breeding with the daughters of man, then every single nationality was interbred and brought into the genetic
information of the eight survivors of Noah’s Flood. This was done for the same reason all the animals were brought into the ark: TO SAVE THE SPECIES (or in this case: THE BREED)!!! After the flood, when people began breeding again, like-mates would attract each other (dark skin to
dark skin, light to light, tall to tall, slanted eyes to slanted eyes, etc.etc., until all the distinct races were reproduced again). This reminds me of how Christ won’t return, the 2nd
time, until His Gospel has reached every nation the world over, that a piece of all bloodlines may be born into The Spiritual Body of Christ and come back into The One they came out of (in early creation 😉 [Note: the book of Enoch is not Scripture, but rather the work of the devil! Angels absolutely CANNOT mate with mankind! Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 15:39-40 reads: “All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies
terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another”. This Scripture passage plainly states that men are men, animals are animals, fish are fish,
birds are birds, angels are angels and they are not the same that they should be compatible in reproduction!!! Christ confirms this in Matthew 19:4 & 5, where we read that God created man both male & female and that it was for
this very CAUSE that they get married. However Christ also said that the angels do not marry (Matthew 22:30).The previous logic applied, tells
us that the very CAUSE that God
created angels not to marry is
because they are neither male nor
female and cannot reproduce.] Indeed, the Scripture says that terrestrial man is made a little lower than the celestial angels are (Hebrews 2:6-7). Though the two cannot reproduce sexually, the Bible sure does speak of the
    possession & influence of demon
spirits/fallen angels on the minds of all unregenerated males & females born of humanity!!! Since they are disembodied (celestial) spirits, this is
possible. All of fallen mankind has inherited, the mental influence of fallen angel spirits, from Adam & Eve. Most people are completely oblivious
to this Biblical fact though. And it is the object of agency evil to float along under your perceptible radars, so that you will, unknowingly, claim their
subtle influencing to be just your own normal thoughts & desires!!! In contrast, the goal of Holy Spiritual Regeneration (The New Life in Christ) is to bring every thought back into the
captivation of God’s Perfect Moral Will (on a moment-by-moment & day-by-day basis) as it were before the fall to sin/lawlessness, back in Eden! This is made possible by The Mighty Power of The (indwelling) Holy Spirit & giving 100% of your will to think & do 100% of God’s Perfect Righteous Will (on a moment-by-moment & day-by-day basis). God’s Holy Spirit will always provide, the believer who searches, with a way out from all unbearable forms of temptation, so that he/she can walk in holy righteous moral perfection, even
    as Christ Himself did, 1 Cor. 10:13, Matt. 5:48, 1 John 2:6 & 1 Peter 1:16 ). Most Assuredly True & Truly True, Amen & Amen :-) :-)

  42. I really found this an interesting read and does in some ways touch on what you wrote in your post but in more detailed way. So I thought I would share it with you here. Please let me know what you think of this writer’s understanding of the creation story and how it foreshadows the plan of salvation.

    https://snowwhitedove.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/plan-of-salvation-foreshadowed-in-the-story-of-creation/

  43. Jesus mentions in the new testament of being there at the beginning so was the HOLY Spirit so please he speaks of this himself so the FATHER was speaking of us.

  44. So when did God create the dinosaurs? Was that before the 3rd or 6th day? If it was on day 1 or day 2 then that contradicts everything I learned in school about evolution And how did Noah manage to get two of every dinosaur on his boat if what we now believe is that they never co existed with man? I don’t understand how religion can still legally be taught when it is so out dated and ridiculous. I mean even my 8 year old son came back from school one day asking who did Adam and Eves kids marry. What am I supposed to tell him? That it’s ok to marry your brother or sister? Or that it’s ok for dads to get their daughters pregnant? Which must be what happened if we are to believe the bible. Shame on all religion!,
I hope it dies out but unfortunately I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime but when it does I think the world will be a much safer place to live.
By the way, I believe we do have a creator, but I don’t think the bible is in any way true. More likely we are a homework project on some kid aliens bedroom sideboard for which he got a C. Nobody knows religious nuts are desperate people who have no right to say “why we are here”

  45. Chapter 1 …….. “adam” = mankind
Chapter 2 …….. “Et Ha Adam” = Eve’s old man

    ok ?

  46. Michael adams

GOD said let us make man in our image on the 6th date….rested on the 7th…..created adam on the 8th day…..when cain was sent out of the garden of eden…he took a wife from the land of nod….from the 6th day creation…..reply to me all that wish…..I can give you verse to show it…..king James bible…..
